In 2008, Toyota’s sales surpassed General Motors’, making it the world leader. Tougher times followed at the turn of the decade but Toyota has always been a forward-thinking company (“the car in front is a Toyota”, in the words of the famous slogan), perpetually looking to the future. Traditionally strong in the stylish mid-sized car sector (reinforced by the luxury Lexus range), smaller cars such as the Yaris and the Corolla, and SUVs like the Landcruiser, are also strong performers. However, with the aforementioned desire to seek out new opportunities in mind, the company’s strategy seems to revolve around being environmentally-friendly and the evolution of its hybrid range: 2012 will see the launch of the Yaris HSD Concept and the 7 seat Prius, along with the Prius Plug-in Hybrid and the EV prototype.
