The Peugeot family began their manufacturing business in the 1700s and by 1810 had opened a steel factory. In 1889 created their first automobile, stamped with the Peugeot Lion used on their steel signifying the strength and quality that they continue to produce today. At the heart of Peugeot is innovation; they were the first manufacturer to introduce rubber wheels in 1891, and the first to realise the importance of a standard electric car, which was created in 1995 and could reach up to 50mph. Peugeot remain at the forefront of electric and fuel economy technologies with the 308 HDi hybrid launched in 2008 and their Blue Lion Initiative urban eco friendly cars.
