Why choose impact wrench sockets over regular sockets?
An often-asked question is whether or not a standard socket can be used with an impact wrench. The basic answer is no, and there are two major reasons why you shouldn’t: safety and efficiency.
The fundamental difference between impact wrench sockets and standard sockets lies in their wall thickness and material hardness. Impact sockets feature thicker walls and are heat treated to a lower hardness than regular sockets.
The material makeup allows compressor ratchet sockets to support and absorb the intermittent shock of each impact from the wrench without the risk of cracks or breaks, thus prolonging the lifespan of the socket. With standard sockets, the risk of cracks and ruptures is high, posing both a safety and efficiency problem to the user.
Our impact socket sets are easily identifiable by their matte black oxide coating, in contrast to the glossy chrome finish of standard sockets. Our molybdenum chromium steel sets are colour coded for ease of use and built to offer reliable and safe performance with a variety of power tools.
