How does a TIG welder work?
TIG welding and is one of many ways to weld metal objects and panels together by using a molten metal wire caused to melt by electricity. Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding produces a non-consumable tungsten electrode and is a favoured method of welding due to its quick and easy nature. It can be used by professionals and new DIYers alike. This process can be used in direct current or alternating current formats – for this reason, you might have heard it known as an AC DC TIG welder.TIG welding and is one of many ways to weld metal objects and panels together by using a molten metal wire caused to melt by electricity.

What’s the difference between MIG and TIG welders?
MIG and TIG welding methods both use an electric arc to help create the weld but they each use this arc in a different way.
A MIG welder uses a feed wire that moves through the gun consistently to form a spark, this wire then melts and creates a weld. However, TIG welding fuses two metals together directly with the use of rods.
TIG welding provides a seamless weld and clean look, great for things that you want to look smooth and professional, such as car bodywork. This method of welding also produces much less smoke and residue than MIG welding, and it can be performed on a wider range of metals including:
- - Titanium
- - Stainless steel
- - Magnesium
- - Copper
- - Aluminium
