FatCat 2019 - Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee

SGS are incredibly proud to sponsor the Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee MX2 team, especially as they compete in the 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.

The Championship kicked off on Sunday at FatCat Motoparc. The deep sand of FatCat is an intimidating test of technique, speed and fitness, meanwhile gale-force winds and torrential rain combined this weekend to make the notoriously tough sand track even tougher!

The SGS team had a fantastic day on Sunday, at FatCat Motoparc, watching the racing and catching up with team mate Conrad Mewse and welcoming new team mate Bas Vaessen. We will be attending all rounds of the British championship, offering great deals on all our Milwaukee tools and products.

Team boss Roger Magee tells us that both riders will spend this year aboard the powerful KTM 250 SF-X bikes, fitted with semi-factory engines. He fully expects his talented riders to push each other to their limits this year. He hopes to dominate this year’s MX2 title fight with reining champion Mewse and Vaessen spearheading his rebranded Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team.

Despite the unfortunate weather conditions we're very pleased to announce that riders Bas Vaessen and Conrad Mewse traded wins, running 2-1 and 1-2 to fill the top two places on the podium.

SGS sat down with Dutchman Bas Vaessen to ask him a few questions about the coming race season and how he's been adjusting to the new team. Vaessen, who has been riding since he was very young, took home the trophy on Sunday at the 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.

How does it feel securing the first win of the 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship?

Feels great! I had no idea what to expect track and organisation wise but I really enjoyed myself.

As far as the calendar, are there any tracks you are looking forward to from here on in?

People said that desert Martin is a really nice track so kind of looking forward to there but just going to all the races with an open mind.

This is your first year with Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee, how are you finding Roger Magee as your mentor and your new team mates?

Good, Roger is a really good guy and has the best intentions for us in the team! Conrad and I get along well so no worries there.

And how are you finding riding a KTM?  Has it been much of an adjustment compared to the Honda?

It’s been quite an adjustment because I’ve always been on Japanese bikes since I’m riding big bikes but now I feel very comfortable on her.

You’re in both the British and World championship this year, it’s going to be very busy for you! What are your goals for the year?

For the Brit’s going for the title and in the GP’s stay healthy and improve all year long to get some good results.

As an Engineering Company and supplier of quality garage equipment and tools, with a keen interest in Motorsports and several members of staff who compete, SGS really love combining their love of tools and speed with work. If you weren’t a two wheeled wonder, what career would you have chosen?

I would either travel the world or work in an ambulance I think.

The MX2 category is one of three principal classes in the 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship, catering for bikes from 125cc two-strokes to 250cc four-strokes. This class also features an age restriction allowing participation for riders under the age of 23 years old.

Conrad Mewse secured a second gate pick in the morning’s qualifying session, just 0.035 seconds behind the session leader. Bas Vaessan following suit set about the day in style qualifying one position and 0.778 seconds behind his team-mate.

Vaessen then took charge of proceedings early on, securing first position. Leaving Mewse finishing just 1.5 seconds behind, and in doing so the pair pulled a huge gap of 40 seconds over third-place finisher Alvin Ostlund.

We've got everything crossed that the rest of the season is as fruitful as this first round. You can keep up with the results of each round here at SGS or see below for the confirmed dates and venues if you you'd prefer to watch them live. Be sure to find us at each event to take advantage of our amazing on the day only deals on Milwaukee tools!
