SGS Engineering Launches 2024 Local Hero Awards: Enter Now!

Do you know a hero tradesperson who deserves recognition and the chance to win a cash prize?

Now entering its fourth year, the team at SGS is thrilled to announce the launch of our annual Local Hero Awards.

The national initiative aims to recognise and celebrate tradespeople who have made exceptional contributions to their local communities through acts of kindness and generosity.

The Local Hero Awards wants to celebrate the remarkable efforts of plumbers, builders, mechanics, electricians, joiners, gardeners, and other tradespeople who have gone above and beyond to selflessly serve others.

It’s time to celebrate those unsung heroes across the UK!

Previous winners of the Local Hero Awards include Chris Griffiths. The 2023 winner from Neston on the Wirral, earned recognition for his dedication to helping OAPs with discounted services and offering free assistance to locals.

Other year's winners include James Anderson of Depher – his community plumbing work has touched the hearts of so many that he has received national recognition and appeared on Good Morning Britain.

Our first ever local hero was Graham Nash of Pinnacle Builders, who used his own time and resources to correct the shoddy work of cowboy builders for free, to help people in need.

One national winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize, while up to five regional winners will each be awarded £250.

Who can enter?

The criteria for the awards is simple – if a tradesperson has helped you, or anyone you know, you can nominate them for the award.

Previous examples of tradespeople shortlisted include:

  • A builder taking isolated elderly people out for a fish supper to keep them company.
  • A roofer offering free emergency repair work for NHS workers during the height of the pandemic.
  • A female plasterer fixing the walls of domestic abuse survivors for free.
  • A handyman is always available for a chat or to complete free jobs for any vulnerable or lonely customers.

We’re always looking for new heart-warming stories, so if you know anyone who deserves the acclaim, nominate them!
