What should I be using a cobalt drill bit for? 

Cobalt drill bits are best suited to metal drilling due to their excellent resistance to the high drilling heat generated when working with abrasive hard metal materials. They are, in fact, cobalt tipped drill bits, with the Milwaukee product line using 95% high speed steel alloyed with 5% cobalt. 

Utilising a split point shaped cutting tip with a 135 degree angle to prevent walking and improve centring, Milwaukee ground cobalt drill bits are suitable for drilling high alloy content metals with tensile strengths of over 1000N/mm². 

Because of their relatively high cost, cobalt drill bits are not recommended for general purpose use. However, their strength and durability make them ideal for repetitive drilling of steel and other metals. Through Milwaukee, we are proud to stock a product that is designed to give you the fastest and most accurate finish to your metal work.
