Gas Struts

Gas Struts / Gas Springs, Fittings & Brackets.

6 to 14mm Diameter Rods, 50N to 2500N Force

2 year warranty to the general public and 3 years to OEMs.

SGS gas struts are industrial grade struts available to everyone with a 2 year guarantee. Use our fixed force gas struts if you know the force in Newton's (N) required or our adjustable range which allow gas to be vented from the strut, lowering the force. Stainless steel struts are designed for use outside or in harsh environments.

Fixed Force Gas Struts

Fixed Force Gas Strut

These are supplied preset at the force requested by the customer in Newtons.

The force can only be altered at a later date by SGS Engineering, and can only be increased.

These gas struts are constructed from a mild steel cylinder painted black and nitro carbonised steel piston rod. They are tested to 70,000 cycles and are covered by a 2 year warranty to the general public and 3 years to OEM's.

Adjustable Force Gas Struts

Fixed Force Gas Strut

These gas struts are supplied at the maximum force capacity of the strut -

At the end of the cylinder there is a release valve with a 2mm grub screw, enabling the force to be reduced in the gas strut. Gas can only be vented from the strut decreasing the force, and not increased.

Stainless Steel Gas Struts

Stainless Steel Gas Strut

Manufactured using high specification 316 grade stainless steel to meet the demands of a harsh marine or industrial environment.

The non-corrosive design prevents damage to the rod and seals giving the struts a longer working life. Our stainless steel gas struts are also suitable for food and medical applications where strength and hygiene are prime considerations.

Traction Gas Struts (Pull Struts)

Pull or Tension Gas Strut

The force of the traction strut pulls the piston rod inward; the action is the opposite of a compression gas strut where the piston is pushed out from the cylinder.

Pull gas struts are used for doors, lids, hatches, loft ladders and hoods that need to stay closed. In its relaxed state the strut is compressed - you must pull to extend it.

  • Black epoxy power coated cylinder
  • Black nitro carbonised rod & hard chrome available on request.
  • Both rod and cylinder ends threaded, with various end fitting available.
  • Working temperature range -30oC to +80oC

Protection Tubes

Protection tube to cover a gas strut piston rod and prevent damage

Protection Tubes are fitted to gas struts when they are to be used in an environment where the piston rod can be damaged from scratches or dents, or where contamination of the piston rod area could damage the seals.

  • Can prolong the life of the gas strut in dirty and dusty environments.
  • There is a 2mm reduction in the stroke of the gas strut if a protection tube is fitted.
  • Protection tubes are available in plastic or metal
  • Working temperature range -30oC to -80oC

Locking Protection Tubes

Locking protection tube gas struts

Safety locking tubes are designed to be simple to use and to prevent injury to the operator in the event of loss of gas pressure in the strut.

  • Unit positively locks on full extension of the gas strut.
  • Simple to use - locking automatically on extension and is released by pushing the safety tube at the correct point to allow the strut to compress.
  • Single locking gas struts can be used in conjunction with a standard gas strut on any application.
  • No need to separate safety locking mechanisms, keeping the unit neat and easy to use.
  • Ensures peace of mind when working near a heavy object
